Due to the reason that emotional quotient (EQ) is gaining more importance a IQ, Social and Emotional Learning or SEL is now growing to be a valuable tool in various educational systems. This is partnered with the goal of developing student’s social skills and emotional maturity. Through SEL, students are empowered to have decision making skills, positive attitude and problem solving skills, social awareness, relationship skills, leadership skills, empathy, life skills and effective listening skills.
There are many different schools and other educational institutions that impart SEL programs via formative evaluation. In this type of assessment, teachers are more capable of personalizing their lessons to suit requirements of their students and help them to become responsible and mature adults. As a matter of fact, giving feedback to educators aren’t the sole focus of formative assessment as students receive feedback too regarding their learning progress. The formative assessment helps teachers to realize the gap in student’s desired performance and current performance. With this, it allows them to implement proper measures to bridge the gap.
SEL practitioners can help in building requisite skills in students and all educational students from all backgrounds by way of forming, training as well as easing the applications of such skills in the every day lives of the students. It’s been uncovered that social and emotional learning programs increases the academic achievement, social and emotional skills, self-esteem and even the classroom behavior of students. This at the same time decreases their odds of getting bullied, indulge in antisocial activities, use drugs and use aggression.
There is a chart followed in SEL programs to see formative assessment; with this chart, it helps in determining the progress and pace of learning that the student has by checking it from high to low level SEL skills. The progress levels that are portrayed in charts meet the set standards for the formative assessment. The chart renders definite objective which implements higher level of it. Using the chart, students are able to monitor their improvement throughout the course of the program.

As a matter of fact, there are 4 different levels used for social and emotional learning progression chart and these include Score 4, Score 3, Score 2 and Score 1. There’s Score 0 as well or the level wherein students find it hard to grasp the situation and have little proficiency in following the scores stated.
